Debiotech introduces insulin delivery device

BERLIN – Debiotech, a Switzerland-based company, has introduced its JewelPUMP insulin delivery device at the EASD 2012 in Berlin earlier this month.

The JewelPUMP carries 500 units of insulin, which can provide a week’s worth of use without the need for replacing the pump. It features an integrated blood glucose meter and uses a dedicated SIM card security to communicate with the JewelCOM, its own phone app running with the Android platform to program the electronic patch, via low energy Bluetooth. The JewelPUMP can operate for seven days on a single mercury- and lithium-free battery.

Debiotech said the JewelPUMP is currently under final stages of development. It is not yet CE Marked and has not yet been submitted to the US Food and Drug Administration for 510(k) clearance.
