Unmanned production, hard materials
and complex cutting jobs are just some of the difficult challenges that have to
be met in die and mould making. Against this background, there is considerable
demand for tailormade tool innovations. An outstanding example of this is LMT
Kieninger’s innovative SpeedLift plunge milling system. It was specially
developed for the semifinishing and finishing of fitting and guide surfaces.
Absolute preservation of angularity is guaranteed in drawing and plunge milling.
Over a length of 300 millimetres the maximum deviation is only 0.01 millimetres
– and that is even the case with large tool projecting lengths of more than 650
millimetres.

The tool system not only enables
workpiece surface qualities with Rz values of less than 5μm, but also offers
simple handling. A minimum number of components enables high-precision,
two-dimensional adjustment of the cutters with a radial runout of less than
3μm. The form- and force-fit connection of the exchangeable cartridges enables
flexible use. The 66- and 80-millimetre diameter plunge milling systems are equipped
with 6 or 8 CBN inserts respectively. These are capable of achieving maximum
cutting speeds, which result in dramatically reduced milling times.
