Dow Launches Pack Studios in Singapore
Pack StudiosSingapore to provide a collaborative environment for the development of packaging solutions forSoutheast Asian customers
SINGAPORE, AUGUST 8, 2016 –The Dow Chemical Company’s(NYSE: DOW) Packaging and Specialty Plastics (P&SP)business announced today the opening of Pack Studios Singapore, the second Pack Studios center for the Asia Pacificregion after Shanghai, China, and the sixth location globally. Aimed at accelerating packaging application projects through a global network of laboratories, technical experts and testing equipment, Dow’s Pack Studios enables a collaborative innovation process that helps customersdeliver faster and more efficient commercialization of new and improved packaging.
Located in Dow’s Singapore Development Center, Pack Studios Singaporereinforces Dow’s commitment to the region, and is strategically positioned to be a game changer for the packaging value chain in Southeast Asia. It will address ongoing packaging trends, and more importantly meet local customer requirements, providing an advantageous opportunity to bring new packaging applicationsto market faster.

Like the other Pack Studios around the world, Pack Studios Singapore is also equipped with a collaboration room to inspire solution-based thinking, and leading laboratory facilities equipped with tools for material development, film fabrication and testing equipment to validate packaging application.
At Pack Studios Singapore, customers and value chain collaborators will be able to work on-site with dedicated Dow technical teams and its network of industry experts in packaging application, materials and design. They can get access to modelling and prototyping technologies for faster innovation and more high performing new products on shelf. Key capabilities include:

· Virtual rendering/visualization of new pouch designs and shapes
· Rapid prototyping of Stand Up Pouches (SUP)
· Several production class Cast Film & Lamination lines
· Several blow film, hooder and wrap lines
· Vertical and horizontal sealer lines
· Collaboration rooms with assistance in information and cutting edge technologies
A one-stop center to inspire faster development of innovative packaging, Pack Studios Singapore is founded on Dow’s strong legacy of materials science. It joins the ranks of five established Pack Studios facilities in Freeport, Texas, USA; Horgen, Switzerland; São Paulo, Brazil; Shanghai, China; and Mozzate, Italy, and will continue to connect customers with Dow’s global network capabilities and expertise, which includes resin, lamination, converting, packaging and testing.
Through Pack Studios Singapore, Dow looks to redefine collaboration and accelerate new packaging development through cost reduction and reduced cycle time on fabrication, prototyping and testing.
An example of how Pack Studios can help with innovative package development is PacXpert™ Packaging Technology, a flexible alternative to rigid containers. An empty PacXpert™ pack saves on transportation costs and reduces CO2 emissions because it is completely flat: the transport vehicle is able to take 10 times more of PacXpert™ packs than conventional rigid containers. As of today, there are three licensees of PacXpert™ in Asia Pacific, and the technology has received three innovation awards across the region.
